Wanted for crimes against boredom.

Otter Outlaw makes co-op games for friends who play together after dark. The current job is Wicknick, a lantern heist for one to four players.

Hold your lantern up to the wall. Things hide in the dark.

A WANTED poster nailed to the wall: an otter in a cowboy hat with a red polka-dot bandana over its face, above the words Otter Outlaw.

Case file № 001 · The current job

Wicknick key art: four carved puppet thieves round a lantern held up inside a ruined arch, violet eyes waiting in the dark.

Keep the wick lit. Nick everything else.

Exhibit A In-game footage

1–4 players: on one screen, or solo.

A side-scrolling co-op heist for 1–4 players on one screen. One lantern keeps your puppet crew alive in the dark: pass it, throw it, flash it, cross swords in its light and hold the lift with the loot before the flame dies.

The plan

  1. Carry the light

Inside the lantern’s glow you’re safe. Step out of it and the cold takes your health while violet eyes wake in the dark.

  2. Pass it, throw it, flash it

Pass the lantern to a friend, throw it across a chasm and hope somebody catches it, or flash it to stun whatever lunges at you.

  3. Fight in the light

Four puppets, four sword styles. Blows land at full strength only inside the glow; in the dark they barely scratch.

  4. Hold the lift

Lift the chest and the alarm goes up. Set the lantern down, call the lift and hold it while the dark pours out, wave after wave.

  5. Pay the toll, split the haul

Back up top, the haul pays the toll and the rest is your crew’s cut. Come up short and the Chandler has two words for you: “Short. Pity.”

Charges

  1. Count ICo-op in the first degree. Every game we make is built for friends who play it together.
  2. Count IIKeeping the lights low. We like dark worlds lit by small, warm things, and the people who huddle round them.
  3. Count IIIGrand theft, strictly fictional. Heists, heavy chests, loot, and a lift that takes its sweet time.
